Radio wavefront of very inclined extensive air-showers: A simulation study for extended and sparse radio arrays

چکیده

Radio-detection is becoming an established technique for the detection of air showers induced by cosmic particles. This in particular true at highest energies, where very large areas are required. A proper description shape radio wavefront emitted may allow to reconstruct properties its parent particle. In this article, we show that with zenith angles larger than 60{\deg} --those targeted giant arrays detecting extensive particles--, a point-source-like allows constraint lateral position shower axis within few meters. Following, reconstructed longitudinal point source correlated nature rays initiating shower. Further systematic studies pending determine robustness parameter and validity as proxy ray composition studies.

Measurement of Radio Emission from Extensive Air Showers with LOPES

A new method is explored to detect extensive air showers: the measurement of radio waves emitted during the propagation of the electromagnetic shower component in the magnetic field of the Earth. Recent results of the pioneering experiment LOPES are discussed. It registers radio signals in the frequency range between 40 and 80 MHz. The intensity of the measured radio emission is investigated as...

Polarized radio emission from extensive air showers measured with LOFAR

We present LOFAR measurements of radio emission from extensive air showers. We find that this emission is strongly polarized, with a median degree of polarization of nearly 99%, and that the angle between the polarization direction of the electric field and the Lorentz force acting on the particles, depends on the observer location in the shower plane. This can be understood as a superposition ...

Radio Measurements of Air Showers with LOPES

LOPES is a digital antenna array for the radio measurement of cosmic-ray air showers at energies around 10 eV. It is triggered by the KASCADE-Grande air-shower array at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. Because of an absolute amplitude calibration and a sophisticated data analysis, LOPES can test models for the radio emission to an up-to-now unachieved level, thus improving ...

Radio emission of highly inclined cosmic ray air showers measured with LOPES

Aims. The capability of radio antenna arrays to measure cosmic ray air showers with very large zenith angles is explored. This is important, since a possible neutrino detection has to fulfill two requirements. First: antennas should be able to detect very inclined cosmic ray air showers, and second: it should be possible to estimate the distance to the shower maximum, since neutrinos are most l...

Radio Pulses from Cosmic Ray Air Showers

The first experiment in which radio emission was detected from high energy particles is described. An array of dipoles was operated by a team of British and Irish physicists in 1964-5 at the Jodrell Bank Radio Observatory in conjunction with a simple air shower trigger. The array operated at 44 MHz with 2.75 MHz bandwidth. Out of 4,500 triggers a clear bandwidth-limited radio pulse was seen in ...
